Here is where you find information on places and Web sites to learn about writing, places to publish, contests and just cool writing stuff in general. A lot of the sites overlap categories, so be sure to check them all — and tell us about any sites or events we've missed.

Events

September 7, 2004 — Young Willamette Writers will host its first meeting of the school year.

April 30, 2005 — The OCTE (Oregon Council of Teachers of English) will hold their annual Oregon Writing Festival at PSU in Portland. More Information.

Of course, there are our own Kay Snow Awards every spring. Applications are usually due mid-May.

Fire Escape Teen Writing Contest for Immigrant Teens For writers between the ages of 13 and 19 who live in the United States, and whose parents were born in another country.

Pathetic.org will not only publish your work, but offers a monthly poetry contest.

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards For grades 7 through 12. Sign up for reminders.

Seventeen Magazine has a prestigious annual fiction contest, which has launched such writers as Sylvia Plath. Ages 13-18, deadline at the end of April, rules published in the November issue.

SFF.net not only offers lists of contests, but has great information about contest scams to avoid and tips on how to win.

Publish

Frodo's Notebook A literary and arts magazine for talented teens around the world.

Merlyn's Pen Foundation Gives teens a chance to publish their fiction, essays and poetry. The foundation promotes teen literacy and its programs serve the developmental needs of precocious teen writers. This site also has a Resource database—an all-around great site for young writers.

PotatoHill has a lovely list of places for students to publish.

Stone Soup welcomes submissions by young people through age 13.

TeenInk a monthly print magazine, website, and a book series all written by teens for teens

Teenlit.com Is not only looking for teen writers, but teens to help update the Web site.
