Win this Bike!

This fantastic Manhattan Nitrous Cruiser is being raffled by Willamette Writers to support its youth programs: Books for Kids, Young Willamette Writers, the Whitcomb conference scholarships for college students & teachers, and the student Writers & Actors Lab conference scholarships.

The bike is a KHS Manhattan Cruiser - Nitrous Black bike, featuring:

  • Single-speed
  • Retro Tank-Style Frame
  • Rear Rack & Fenders
  • Ape-Hanger Handlebars
  • Coaster Brakes
  • Gloss black w/red trim (and flames!)
  • MSRP $349

Cruisers are comfort bikes, with ample seats and tires. This one has tall handlebars to keep you riding tall and comfy.

Tickets are $5 each or 6 for $25 and are available on-line (below), at the Willamette Writers meetings and office, at the Willamette Writers 2008 Conference and at the Missing Link Bicycle shop.

The winner will be chosen at the 39th annual Willamette Writers Conference at the Portland Airport Sheraton on Sunday, August 3rd. The winner need not be present to win, but will be responsible for transportation of the bike from the hotel to its new home.

The bike was partially donated by the Missing Link bicycle shop, 7215 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, phone: 503-740-3539. The shop recently moved from NE Fremont to the NE Sandy Blvd location near the Roseway Theater. The owner, Joe Rettke, builds, repairs and modifies bikes and is a friendly and knowledgeable presence. He started out business in a van making house-calls, but is now firmly planted in Portland’s Roseway Community where he is well known for his support of school and community efforts. He offers a full line of services and accessories and also sells used bikes (including some fabulous classics).
