Want to win a free day at the Willamette Writers
Conference in August 2008? Then apply for a C. Whitcomb Conference Scholarship

Enter the C. Whitcomb Conference Scholarship Contest by nominating your best writing student(s). If your student wins, so do you. You'll both be awarded a day at the Willamette Writers Conference, August 1-3, 2008 at the Airport Sheraton in Portland, OR.

Rules:

* Entries must me submitted between March 1st and June 1st, 2008.
* Winners will be notified by June 13th, and will have until July 1 to accept or decline the award. Alternates will receive any awards not claimed.
* Instructors from accredited colleges who teach writing can nominate their best students by telling us why the student would benefit from the confer- ence (150 words or less). The most compelling entries will be selected.
* The name and contact information for both the teacher and the student must be included on the entry.
* Submissions can be e-mailed, mailed or faxed.
* Teachers can enter as many students as they like. However, they are lim- ited to an award of one free day, even if several of their students win.
* Ten scholarships are available.

The Willamette Writers Conference offers a wide variety of workshops from some of the best professionals in the business. Topics include writing techniques, marketing, the writing life, and other "how tos." In addition, approximately 50 consultants - literary agents & editors, and film professionals- will be there to take pitches. A handful of people get their start with these consultants every year, and some go on to great success.

Note: The scholarship is for registration, which includes classes, daytime meals and snacks. Transportation, accommodation, pitch sessions and evening meals are on your own.

Writers & Actors Lab Student Scholarship

This scholarship competition is for young screenwriters in grades 7 - 12 to participate in the annual Willamette Writers Conference.

The author of the winning script will:
1) have a scene from his or her script acted out by professional actors in front of a live audience at the Willamette Writers Conference "Writers & Actors Lab" dinner on Friday, August 1, along with those of other scriptwriters.

2) be invited, together with the student's writing, acting or film teacher (or parent if the teacher is unable to attend) to attend one full day of workshops, Friday August 1 2008 and the "Writers & Actors Lab" din- ner and performance that evening.

Scholarships do not include travel expenses or accommodations at the conference.

To apply please forward:

1. An original, unpublished screenplay sample of 10 pages or less, typed in screenplay format. The sample should be titled, but not include any information about the author. Screenwriting published in school publications is eligible.

2. A cover letter with contact information that includes the title of the screenplay, and a paragraph of information about the student's goals as a writer, actor or in film production.

3. A letter of recommendation, one to two paragraphs long, from an instructor in the current academic year.
