Willamette Writers 2007 Board     

President - Cynthia Whitcomb is a former screenwriting teacher at UCLA and has sold over 70 screenplays. She currently teaches screenwriting classes locally along with working on her current scripts. Cynthia is responsible for chairing monthly board meetings and generally conducts the Portland monthly membership meetings, which are also open to the public.

Vice President - Jan Paeth is a children's book author, stained glass artist and was formerly on the staff of Strawberry Hill Press. Her responsibility is to organize speakers for the monthly general membership meetings. She is a K-12 substitute teacher.

Vice President, Membership - Herbert Piekow is nationally recognized garden expert who has created floral arrangements for the Oscar Awards and written many articles on gardening that have been published annually. He is a supervisor for the Oregon Department of Revenue.

Treasurer - Shirley Barker has won awards for her mystery writing and is a certified public accountant who works for a commercial property management company.

Secretary - Val Bruech is an award-winning mystery writer and a licensed attorney. She is responsible for meeting minutes and advises on various matters.

Newsletter Manager - Leona Grieve does freelance editorial work and teachers writing workshops. She is responsible for the publication of Willamette Writers monthly newsletter.

Books for Kids Coordinator - Jerry Isom is a retired Certified Public Accountant. He is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Books for Kids.

Young Willamette Writers - Joni Heyman has been a board member and co-chairman of the Young Willamette Writers for four years. She is the author of Lessons Under the Oak Tree. She teaches creative writing at PCC.

Communications - Salli Slaughter is a freelance Web designer, graphic designer, PR consultant, writer and editor. She also works part-time at Powells Books and writes non-fiction.

Southern Oregon Chapter - Lori Patch is a writer of fiction and a realtor in Grants Pass. She coordinates the monthly meetings in Medford and arranges for speakers.

Mid-Valley - JoJo Jensen coordinates monthly meetings in Eugene. She's a published author, teacher, and has done PR work.

Salem - Marilyn Ebbs coordinates monthly meetings in Salem. She writes mainstream literary fiction.



Coast Chapter - Sue Lick is the author of Freelancing for Newspapers and Stories Grandma Never Told me. She is a newpaper reporter/editor turned freelance writer/editor/writing teacher. She has been writing and publishing in some form since elementary school. In addition to her writing, she is a professional singer/guitarist/piano player.



Kay Snow - Pat MacAodha teaches Celtic mythology at PSU and is a member of SisterSpirit.



Volunteer Coordinator - Nancy Hill is a professional photographer and a screenwriter.

Sponsorships and Grants - MaryMargaret Maitland has written many grants for Willamette Writers that have been funded. She writes fiction.

Awards - Lizzy Shannon Lizzy Shannon was born and grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Lizzy is presently a Literary Consultant with the Pacific NW Literary Associates in Portland, Oregon, and offers a full-range editing service.
